ALISO VIEJO, California, February 12, 2016 – Rescuing projects plummeting toward failure can be an extremely rewarding specialty area for consultants, according to Peter Walzer, CEO of Blue Globe Group, Inc. and Principal of Blue Globe Management Consulting (a division of Blue Globe Group, Inc.), located in Aliso Viejo, CA.

Mr. Walzer, a project turnaround expert with more than 30 years of consulting and related business experience with leading financial intuitions, high tech companies and other firms, recently addressed members and guests at the Institute of Management Consultants’ Orange County Business Forum.

During his presentation, he discussed a variety of project types and the best management practices for each; ways to tell that a project is headed for failure; project turnaround techniques; and how project turnarounds can create new business opportunities for consultants.

Mr. Walzer pointed to studies that show that project failures are quite prevalent throughout a broad cross-section of industries. Since 2008, the percentage of projects that managers say have met their original goals and business intent has declined by 10 percent and only 2.5 percent of companies successfully complete all of their projects.

Given that most project managers – likely more than 80% – make no special efforts to turn around failing projects, Mr. Walzer said there are many opportunities for enterprising consultants to step in and save the day. But he cautioned attendees that project turnarounds are not easy. Consultants will often require skills many project managers lack, and need leadership abilities, plus flexibility and mental stamina. Having experience with turnarounds is a valuable asset, too.
